Review of The Dirty Picture

The Dirty Picture is not that dirty as the name sounds. Its based on a true story of Silk Smitha who was a Indian vamp artist; worked mostly in south Indian movies. Vidya plays the role of Silk Smitha in the movie and her character is also named Silk in the movie.

Reshma (Vidya Balan) is an ambitious, bold and confident lady who wants to work in the Indian film industry. She goes for a dance shoot and there she is spotted by a director who gives her a name Silk. She instantly gives the name Kida Singh (Rajesh Sharma) to him saying that “Silk to kide hi banate hain”. She has her first item number with her childhood favorite actor, Suryakant (Naseeruddin Shah). Since she is working with her favorite actor for the first time; she gets nervous and is not able to give a good shot. Suryakant gets angry and leaves the place. Silk follows him and seduces him; finally they shoot the song. After that Silk and Suryakant keep meeting and keep having bedroom encounters; she becomes his dirty secret. One night when they are about to make out Suryakant’s wife comes in looking for him and Silk immediately goes inside the bathroom and hides there. That time she realizes that for Suryakant she is nothing more than a girl for pleasure in bed. Heartbroken with this fact Silk leaves the house and has an encounter with Suryakant’s brother Ramakant (Tushar Kapoor). After sometime they become good friends and eventually he becomes the new found love interest in Silk’s life. A love affair with him also comes to an end when in a party Silk has a face-off with her new competitor. Ramakant is shocked with this behavior of Silk and he ends his relationship with her. After this break up, Silk’s life becomes problematic; she has no roles, no job and she is facing a financial crisis. Also Silk has few people in her life who dislike her; first is a journalist Naina (Anju Mahendru) who keeps writing bad things about her and tries to spoil her image. And then there is this director Abraham (Emran Hashmi) who feels movies don’t work with cheap skin show and hates Silk to his core of heart for doing cheap skin show in movies. But eventually Abraham is also attracted to Silk and starts loving her. One night he goes to her and spends the whole night with her; talking about her life, her past and then he confronts to her that he has started liking her. Silk’s financial problems have become larger than life and in order to earn money she goes to a director where she realizes that he makes porn movies. Before he could shoot her movie there is a police raid and Silk escapes from the place. Depression and the feeling that no one understood her; even her mother closed the door on her face; for some she was a dirty secret; the person who said he loved her also didn’t stand by her side and with all these thoughts she commits suicide. Before dying she bids a goodbye to Abraham. By the time Abraham realizes and reaches her house she is dead and that is where the story ends.

Vidya has given a power packed performance in the movie. She has played the character of Silk wonderfully. Other actors like Naseeruddin Shah, Tushar Kapoor and Emran Hashmi have also played their roles well but the whole movie is over taken by Vidya and after the movie I am sure everyone will remember Vidya’s character.

The best thing about the movie is the dialog written by Rajat Aroraa. Niharika Khan is the costume designer who has beautifully given that 70s look in the movie. The movie has been directed by Milan Luthria and as a director he has done justice to the movie. The songs of the movie are good.

A good movie to watch and enjoy. Good to see that Vidya has got away from the league of size zero. Over all my rating is 3/5.

Review of Rajneeti

Rajneeti can be seen as the modern Mahabharata where the fight for power is shown. Everything is fair in love and war; Rajneeti has the same theme. Everything is fair in the modern politics. Saama, daana, dand, bhed are not enough to win the fight and where to win even love can become a game. That’s the theme of the movie.

Ranbir Kapoor has shown that he can be a good actor even in a serious role. Manoj Bajpayee, Ajay Devgan and Nana Patekar as usual have done a good job. Infact it was good to see Manoj Bajpayee doing some meaningful role after a long time. Arjun Rampal for a change has done justice with his part. Nikhila Trikha who plays the role of Ranbir’s mother in the movie needs to work a lot on her acting skills. That Bihari accent was missing in her dialogue delivery. Shruti Seth is a wonderful TV actress and her acting talent in the movie is appreciable. The foreign actress, Sarah Thompson, is the love interest of Ranbir in the movie and in her part she has done a good job. Katrina Kaif as usual looks beautiful in the movie and played her part well. I wont say Naseeruddin Shah has done a magnificent job maybe because he is there for only a small portion of the movie but he is good in that small portion also.

Now as I have already stated earlier Rajneeti is modern Mahabharata so here is a comparison of the cast:-

• Ranbir Kapoor is Arjun in the movie
• Arjun Rampal can be compared with Yudishthir
• Manoj Bajpayee has been portrayed as Duryodhan
• Ajay Devgan is the danveer Karn
• Best is Nana Patekar who plays Krishna in the movie

The music of the movie is already in the chart busters and personally I likeMora Piya and Bheegi Si Bhagi Si songs a lot.

Even though the star cast is strong and everyone has played their part well somewhere I did not really enjoy the movie. Especially second half has a lot of violence and brutal killings. My overall rating for the movie would be 3/5.

Review of Delhi Belly

Delhi Belly is a complete time pass movie; dont think that the movie has some great story to offer to the audience. Its an average movie with A rated dialog and scenes. Few scenes are pretty disgusting and the Indian audience might not like them. For those scenes only one thought comes in my mind is that when a girl is walking down the round some guy making comment is still fine but if he touches her then that is disgusting.

Even though its a bollywood movie the movie is made in english with a touch of hindi here and there in the movie. The actors look pretty comfortable with the english lingo for delivering their speeches.

Tashi (Imran Khan), Nitin (Kunal Roy Kapoor) and Arup (Vir Das) are 3 room mates staying in a one bedroom house at Delhi. The movie starts with the problem of water which most Indians are still facing till date; the water comes for few hours in the morning and most of the time these three miss to fill the water. Sonia (Sehnaz Treasurywala) is Tashi’s girlfriend and asks him to meet her parents for marriage. The rich parents of Sonia give a car as a gift to Tashi. Then there is another common man’s problem of rent for which Nitin finds a solution which will not just help him solving the rent problem but also earn some good money. Tashi is a journalist and Nitin is a photographer who works with him; there is one more person working with these 2, Menaka (Poorna Jagannathan). Menaka is a kind of person who works hard in the day and has fun at evening. Menaka has a crazy husband (Rahul Singh) with whom she is having a divorce in sometime.

Let me come to the main plot of the movie which starts with a packet which is given to Sonia by Vladimir Dragunsky (Kim Bodnia) to be delivered to Somayajulu (Vijay Raaz). She gives the packet to Tashi and he gives the packet to Nitin; Nitin gives the packet to Arup and finally Arup makes the delivery to Somayajulu. But what Somayajulu receives in the packet is not something which was given by Vladimir. And then there is a cyclone; aandhi in the lives of the 3 roommates because of the content of that one packet. How the cyclone gets over is what is Delhi Belly all about.

Vir Das, Kunal Roy Kapoor, Poorna Jagannathan, Vijay Raaz and the person who plays the right hand of Vijay Raaz have done a really good job in the movie. Imran Khan is still fine acting wise but Shenaz Treasurywala is irritating in the movie.

Songs of the movie are already rocking the chartbusters. Each song whether its D K Bose, Switty, Jaa Chudail, Nakkadwale Disco have their own individual flavor. But Bedardi Raja is a surprise element for me; a soft number sung beautifully. Last but not the least is the item song done by Aamir Khan especially for this movie along with Anusha and that is I hate you (like I love you)

The direction team and the editing team has made sure that the flow of the movie is good and the audience doesn’t get bored with the movie even though the movie doesn’t have a very strong story base.

Sometimes some shits are dangerous but they can turn a person lucky. To know how watch the movie. My ratings would be 2.5 for the movie; sadly I don’t find a wow factor in the movie.

Review of Cheeni Kum

A movie worth watching atleast once. The movie has very beautifully shown that age doesn't matter for being in love or live life or to die.

The story is about Bhudha(Amitabh Bachan) and Neena(Tabu). Bhudha is a 64 years old man and Neena is 38 years old woman. Both are single. Bhudha has a mother(Zohra Sehgal) and staying in London. Neena is having a father(Paresh Rawal) and they stay at delhi but Neena has gone to London for work. Neena's father is of age 58 years and Bhudha is 6 years older than him. And then there is a small girl in Bhudha's neighbourhood, Sexy((Swini Khera), who is having cancer and will die soon.

Bhudha is a shef whereas Neena is a LIC agent. Bhudha is very proud of his restaurant. Neena comes to his restaurant and orders Heydrabadi Jafrani Pulao which by mistake becomes sweet and returns it back to the kitchen. When Bhudha sees his dish has not been taken he is very angry and goes out and asks Neena has she ever been into kitchen. Neena doesn't say anything then but next day makes the pulao and brings it to the restaurant. Nice attitude I must say.

After Bhudha comes to know that really someone has done a mistake. He asks about the cook and fires him. When Neena comes to know about it, she says to Bhudha if the food is good everyone appreciates you but if it is bad the blame goes to the person who made it. Isnt he responsible for the mistake. I hope i dont need to explain what does this want to say.

Well I am not going describe each and every scene. For those who have watched the movie know the story and for those who haven't dont worry I am just sharing some things which I liked.

Neena comes to Bhudha's restaurant everyday everyday. But one day she doesn't come and Bhudha is depressed that she didn't come. When Sexy sees Bhudha sad she tells him that he should be happy sad and not sad sad because the person who made him sad he feels happy when he sees that person. A nice thought.

After sometime Bhudha and Neena fall in love. Love is not dependent on age and it can happen any time. No love story is complete without a problem and the problem in this movie is Neena's father. His age is 58 years. Staying in India and having a typical Indian mentality. When Bhudha tells him that he wants marry Neena. Neena's father gets angry. He asks Neena to stay away from him. But he is shocked to know that Neena also loves Bhudha. Well he starts giving reasons like how long will he live just think and he is too old. Neena says that her mother also left him after 10-12 years but still they were happy and so the important thing is to be happy with someone for 5-6 years rather than staying with someone and be sad. And then she says him rudely I am just telling you and not asking for permission. He says I will die then she says when is that date coming so that she can marry Bhudha.

When Neena's father sees nothing is working for him and he cant make his daughter understand, he goes on a hunger strike. Now both Bhudha and Neena dont know how to make him understand that they really love each other. Anyways I will tell the things Bhudha said to him. Bhudha's mother had gone to Haridwar. And now she is back and comes to know the problem. They both go to Neena's place. There Bhudha asks his problem. Then he says are you jealous of me coz I am more active than you. And he says does age stop someone from living. One can feel young till the age he wants. With I can say one thing at 25 also if one starts thinking like a 50 year old person one will feel old. And then he says in 2 minutes I can marry your daughter but she loves you. She will not marry me but then she wont marry anyone else also. Spend her whole life alone. He says you are worried about your daughter but dont see what makes happy. He leaves the place.

Forgot to tell you there is a pillar and if the person is able to hold the pillar with both hands by keeping the back touching the pillar thier wish is fulfilled. Bhudha goes to that place after he leaves Neena's house and with the help of his mother he is able to hold that pillar. He gets a good news that Neena's father has agreed for thier marriage. But after sometime he gets the bad news that Sexy died. Age also doesn't see age. She is a kid but still dies. He feels very low and is crying. Neena comes to know the news and says when we feel heavy we cry and these tears make us light and take away the memories. Well finally Neena and Bhudha are together.

One more thing Bhudha has a little long hairs so long that he can tie them. When he goes to Delhi to meet Neena's father he cuts his hair and becomes a proper man. Sometimes we have to do somethings to impress someone. Well it may look stupid but still we do it.

I had many learnings from the movie. I hope those who wathced also had learnings. I have only told my learning from the movies. Those who have not watched can go and watch and if really interested can give some thought. I really appreciate the dialogue writer. Some lines are really good and mostly given to female characters.

Review of Life in a metro

Well lets start with Shilpa and K K Menon. Well typical married life. Have stayed for 9 years and nothing interesting is happening in thier life. So K K Menon finds this sweet, bubbly, full of life girl Kangana Renaut and falls for her. Staying with her he forgets the problems of house and office and enjoys her company.

Next we come to Shilpa who gets attracted to Shiney and starts spending time with him. She likes his company but at the end she leaves him. Well I think she took a right decision by leaving him. Shiney's character has been shown as a loser. Gets angry at small things but cant do anything. Well when he is in a play and someones mobile rings he is angry. Being for short time he would curb his angry and be in a good mood with Shilpa. But when it comes to staying together maybe these small things can tense him and he might complain to Shilpa. Doing it once is fine but what if he does it everyday. And Shilpa will come with her daughter we should not forget and maybe at a later point of time he can say anything about her. And here she knows K K Menon for 9 years and this time much better. And so its better to stay with someone whom you know for long than going for someone you have met recently. And K K Menon loves his daughter. When she got sick he took her to hospital and when he and Shilpa had a fight on the anniversary day then also he talks politely to his daughter. And atleast she can guarantee this that he will keep loving her daughter. And both of them love each other but somewhere they are bored with each other and so they are attracted to someone else.

Now lets come to Kangana. Well she has to settle in life and she cant be in relation with her boss forever. And now she is fed up of hiding and meeting him. When she asks him to her along with him and says that she wants someone who cares for her. He says fine make a boy freind because K K Menon is with her only for relaxation. And Kangana gets fed up and after this she wants to kill herself. But here comes someone who cares for her without any reason. Atleast she doesnt know the reason that he likes her. When K K Menon comes to know about Shilpa liking someone else. His ego is hurt and so he decides to leave her. And goes to Kangana. He tells about Sherman leaving the job and the reason which he finds stupid as he thinks Sherman is looking only for money. But sometimes in love money deosnt matter. And when Kangana comes to know he left his job because of her. She knows how important the job is for him and she realises that he likes her even after knowing about her. So going to him is a good idea.

Well next is Kangana whose story i couldn't understand. Waiting for 30 years and marrying someone like Irfan. Well atleast i didnt find Irfan that interesting. But maybe she was fed up of finding guys. And spending time with him she got attracted to him. And maybe she had come to an age where she thought now stop finding someone and get married to someone.

And at last i seriously could not get Dharmji and Nafisa Ali story. So wont say anything. People did justice to the role they were given and songs are definitely good. Every song has its own meaning. Will give the description tomorrow. And Kangana and Sherman have done a good job. Sherman has shown that he can do serious roles also. And Kangana's new look is good. I liked it.

Review of 7 Khoon Maaf

7 Khoon Maaf is the latest attempt made by Vishal Bhardwaj. The movie is based on a short story written by Ruskin Bond 'Susanna's Seven Husbands'. The theme of the movie is about a lady killing 6 husbands she marries in her journey of finding love in her life but always ending for a wrong guy. It can be put in the category of dark movies.

Priyanka as Susanna Anna-Marie Johannes plays the role of protagonist who is in search of love. Priyanka’s husband are played by Neil Nitin Mukesh, John Abraham, Irfan Khan, Aleksandr Dyachenko, Annu Kapoor and Naseerudin Shah in the same sequence. Arun played by Vivaan Shah narrates the story of Susanna to his wife played by Konkana Sen. He explains how and why Susanna keeps killing her husband. There are 3 people in the movie who help Susanna in killing her husbands and they are played by Usha Uthup, Shashi Malviya and the third person I am not able to find out his name.

Overall the movie is too slow and the songs look unnecessary. Also some of the stories are not completed in a proper way. Some of the stories are not given a good finishing touch and seems like Vishal is in a hurry to move to the next encounter of Susanna. But yes some of the stories have been narrated very beautifully and you will actually feel that Susanna did a right job by killing this guy.

The story is good but not developed in a proper way. For many audiences they will not have a paisa vasool feel. Acting wise everyone has done justice to their part. John looks funny in the skirt and the spaghetti top which he wears in the movie. Priyanka’s role covers the life stage of a woman from a 23 year old young lady to a 40 year old woman and she plays her part well. For me Usha Uthup was a surprise package in the movie.

I am not going to reveal the story but give a caution that go with this in mind that it’s a dark movie which has a slow pace and you might like to murder Vishal Bhardwaj at the end. Hindi mein toh Vishal Bhardwaj ka khoon karne ka mann karega.

My ratings would be 3/5 because the problems shown in the movie are genuine.

BTW those who have seen the movie and trying to figure out the seventh murder which Susanna does or rather I would say first one then it’s the dog which kills when she is young.

P.S. Do share your views about the movie. Enjoy :-)

Review of Yeh Saali Zindagi

Yeh Saali Zindagi the name sounds interesting. The story though is not that interesting still there are few scenes which will make you appreciate the creativity of Sudhir Mishra. The scenes like Irfan Khan taking the finger prints of a dead body on a stamp paper; Sudhir Mishra really has that criminal mind or maybe there is a criminal helping him out with innovative ways of committing crime :-)

The bullet scene fascinated me. The way bullet instead of hitting Chote; hits the railing and finally strikes Irfan is shot in an interesting way. Oh yes I also enjoy the way the movie starts with the animation.

Songs are good but when it comes to the movie I found them to be a misfit. Some songs made the movie slow. If songs were not there it would not have made much difference.

Irfan Khan as Arun is his usual self in the movie. We have seen him play similar role but still he does it well. His love interest in the movie Priti played by Chitrangda Singh has done a good job. Aditi Rao Hydari who plays Shanti in the movie lacks gravity or maybe her character sketch is defined in such a way. I didn’t enjoy her acting and her scenes with Kuldeep played by Arunoday Singh are weak. As such Arunoday Singh has done justice to his role but as I pointed out his love/anger/hatred scenes with Aditi Rao Hydari are not that intense. The only thing intense between them is the kissing :-D

Over all I enjoyed the movie. There is a lot of talks about the abuses (galiyan) used in the movie but I guess this much abuses were used in Omkara also so I didn’t find it something new or different. Also we cant expect criminals to talk with vinamrata (politeness). Bole toh criminals gaaliya toh use karege hi.

Not a great movie but sure can be watched once. My ratings 2.5/5

Yeh Saali Zindagi ko samjh jaate toh saali zindagi jeene ka maza nahi rehta. Saali zindagi jaisi hai achi hai :-)
