Review of Love Aaj Kal

For those who have seen the movie Love Aaj Kal, I don’t know whether they will agree with me or not. But here are my views about the movie. To get a gist of the movie just read the last 4 paragraph.

Past and present shown together but it really didn’t take me of my seats and made me feel wow this is really great. A feeling I had after I had seen RDB. Yes first I would compare the movie with RDB because both had the similar concept showing how past and present and interrelated. How learning’s from the past can still be used in present. But in this movie that flavor was missing. The past and the present looked disjoint and past abruptly emerged up in the present.

For me neither the past has been shown that well nor the present. I liked the idea of celebrating the break up. But here the case is that both of them wanted to break up so celebrating it is really not a problem. What if the break up is one sided, anyways movie was not concentrating on that.

Another thing I liked was the idea that even after break up they decide to be friends and be in touch through calls, mails, chats. Thanks to technology that people can be in touch with their loved ones. :-)

The role of this Punjabi kudi is played Harleen Kaur who is a Brazilian model. She looks stunning in the Indian attire and I am sure no one will be able to make out that this girl is not an Indian. Thankfully she didn’t have to wear saree. I mean its tough for we the, Indian girls to wear saree and carry it out whole day on an everyday basis, I don’t know how she would have felt on wearing the saree. But still she rocked in the salwar kameez attire also. :)

Even if I leave all the logics and think about the story for me there is a big miss in the movie. The story could have been much more better. For me more hype has been created than actually the movie is worth for. The past has ruined the present also. It would have been better if the director concentrated only on the present rather than showing present.

Now talking about the acting of various persons then I would say Saif was far better in Hum Tum. Deepika is too plain in her character, though agree with her that she has a beautiful smile but with a smile only I cant say a person is a good actress. Giselle Monteiro has not been given a very long role but she looks good in her role. I would appreciate her for dancing in the song of ‘La La La ho gayi re’ especially with a lip sync in it. Rishi Kapoor has done justice with his role. Rahul Khana has done whatever is required from his role so in his short role I would say that he is good. Florence Brudenell-Bruce who played Jai’s girlfriend role is ok sorts, not too good or bad.

About the songs of the movie, I would say that I enjoyed them listening on my lappy or tv more than in the movie itself. Though ‘Chor Bazari’ is my personal favourite number from the movie. Even the choreography of the song Chor Bazari is good. Other songs which I like are ‘Yeh Dooriyan’, ‘Aaj Din Chadiyan’, ‘Aahuan Aahuan’ and ‘Twist’ in the sequence. After a longtime got to see nagin dance in the song ‘Twist’.

I think I have covered all the aspects of the movie. Many people have compared this movie with Jab We Met but I don’t see any comparison between both the movies. both the movies have been made differently and offcourse Jab We Met is better than Love Aaj Kal. As I had heard in the review on Zoom for this movie that since no good movies are getting released and its better than the current generation of movies getting released it has been rated 3/5.

My overall rating for the movie would be 2/5. One time watch with friends but not alone. All the best to all those who plan to watch the movie. Hope you enjoy the movie. :)
