Almost everyone must have heard or read that Wake Up Sid is a story of a boy completing his final year at college with no aim in life. One can say Sidharth Mehra or Sid (Ranbir Kapoor) is a brat whose every demand is fulfilled by his father (Anupam Kher) and mother (Supriya Pathak). The only thing he knows about life is to have fun, shop, party, eat at a road side dhaba with friends. Those things which everyone would have done during college days. Things like having night outs before exams. On his college farewell he meets Aisha (Konkana Sen) who has a aim in life.
Aisha who has travelled all the way from Kolkata to Mumbai. A girl who wants to have a job, who wants to earn her living. Aisha is the person who wishes to spend her own money for partying, for the masti of life. Someone who wants to become self-independent. One can say that she is just the opposite of Sid. Oops forgot to tell about college friends of Sid, Laxmi (Shikha Talsania) and Rishi (Namit Das). Laxmi is an obese girl who plans to diet in the start of the day but by the end of the day she fails to follow her diet chart. She is the girl who will start checking the exam paper after the exam is over. I am sure many people would have across such a person who would start looking at the mistakes made in the exam paper immediately after the exam. Rishi is a close friend of Sid, who loves a girl in college and plans to propose her for marriage. But Sid doesn’t understand the need to become serious about anything in life. Serious about marriage, about exams, about working at office.
Then one day things change in Sid’s life. The day when he fails in the college exam and all his friends pass. The day when his parents especially his father get angry over him and ask him to leave the house. The day when he joins Aisha in her flat. Aisha who has got a job in one of the Mumbai’s magazine and who is attracted to her boss, Rahul Khanna. Few more differences are there between Aisha and Sid. Aisha is the kind of girl who keeps her room clean while Sid is far away from cleanliness. Sid is a guy who leaves in a mess. Since Aisha loves a clean room, after coming back to home every night she cleans up the mess created by Sid. She keeps saying to Sid that you are a boy not a man. She keeps saying that Sid when will you grow up. Slowly and slowly Sid starts getting transformed. He starts keeping the room clean.
Aisha helps Sid in making him an intern at her office for the photographs section. Sid gets a chance to convert his hobby, his passion into work. A boy who never studied college books and failed has started studying the assignments given to him. A boy who ran away from his father’s office in a week after joining the office is now completely involved in his work. Aisha who is a good writer but in the office she is no more than a person who serves coffee and cleans her boss’s room. But this doesn’t stop her from writing a story, a story about her and Sid. Aisha who always thought she will never fall in love with a boy but a man, a man like her boss. A man who would love jazz and who would take her to boring parties of big people.
Will Aisha fall in love with a kid like Sid? Will Sid be able to go back to his home and face his father again? Will Sid be able to eat the food made by his mom? I know you people would have guessed the answer but to know how all this happens watch the movie. A movie about today’s generation which doesn’t love to wear a formal dress to office but has to wear it because of dress code. A generation which loves to eat pizza, a generation which shops with a credit card, eats with a credit card. About people who want to be carefree but in a course of time they realize that they need to get serious in life. Serious about work, love and marriage.
Script written by Ayan Mukerji and Niranjan Iyengar. Directed by Ayan Mukerji. A wonderful script delivered beautifully. Good job done by all the actors in the movie. Lovely music and they already in the chartbusters. I am sure the music would have started rocking the people. Not a very long movie and no melodrama. No rona dhona, no emotional atyachar at any point in the movie be it scenes when Sid leaves the house or when he fails in the college. Reactions shown as it could happen to the real people. Well defined character sketch and not a crowd of characters which can make a movie confusing.
My ratings for the movie 3.8/5. Do watch out the movie, I am sure people will get connected and like it. :-)
