First let me congratulate the writer Sandeep Srivastava for coming up with such a nice script. And then the team of Yash Raj Films i.e. the producer Aditya Chopra for showing his guts to produce this movie and the director Kabir Khan for directing a movie on such a controversial topic.
Now you must be wondering why it is controversial. Well then let me tell you I never thought Indian film makers had the guts to make a movie showing negativity against America. The first thing that came to my mind was 'Wow how could they dare to do such a thing'. And the next thing was how have the American audience reacted to it. I enjoyed it and felt good that at least the movie has used the freedom of speech in a good way. We should remember no country is perfect.
Acting wise everyone has done a good job. Irfan Khan as usual has proved that he is a good actor. It was good to see Neil Nitin Mukesh do a justice with his role. I was really disappointed with him after watching 'Aa Dekhe Zara'. John Abraham has learnt a lot in acting and the improvement could be seen in this movie. Last but not the least, the woman who is really becoming a lucky charm for directors and producers, Katrina Kaif. In this movie Katrina has played a very different kind of role. And I must say she has done a good job. She is not there to do time pass and romance with John but there is more substance to her role.
Now let me tell you why I said what would Americans feel about the movie. Well because the movie has shown the torture on people after 9/11 because of their religion. People who were caught by FBI and detained from the right to live. But after all the torture when these people are released because of lack of evidence, it turns the person either into a sadist or a terrorist. Why so because after they come out their confidence is shattered. They are looked down by the people as if they are criminal and it becomes hard for them to have a normal life and get a job. It was disgusting to see the cops urinate over the face of these detained people and leave them like that. The torture shown in the movie made me feel sad. Also made me feel how a normal, lively person can chose the wrong path.
One dialogue which Irfan said that choosing terrorism cant be justified in anyway. Well yes it cant be but if a person is shattered like the way shown in the movie, s/he in an imperfect mental state can chose any path. The people in the system should think on how they don’t make a normal person a criminal. And if such a thing happens then somehow the person will try to take revenge. Fight back against the system and for such a person it really doesn’t matter whether it is the right thing or not. As for why I said Katrina has more substance to her role because when John is shattered because of the torture in the FBI cell after his release from the FBI cell, Katrina stands by his side and tries to boost his confidence. I really loved the scene where Katrina gets down on her knees and proposes John to marry her. Well that is what is love all about, being by the side of your partner even when s/he is having a bad patch in her/his life.
I felt bad for Katrina being killed at the end. Actually could not understand the reason for that. Well maybe the writer didn’t want to show that Katrina started hating Neil because of him John was killed. And wanted a little better ending by showing Neil adopting the child and forgiving Irfan. I am not the writer or a crew member of the movie so cant really predict the reason for that kind of an ending. But still I found the ending a little weird and funny. I was wondering that Irfan held Neil and didn’t let him move from his place but no one grabbed Katrina. It was somewhat funny. After all she was not the terrorist. I hope someone can give a reason for the way Katrina is killed in the movie. :-)
I am not sharing the story of the movie. Do watch the movie. I liked it and I am sure those who have not seen it yet will also like it. The music has already been rocking the charts. I loved all the songs especially Mere Sang and Tune Jo Na Kaha.
If it was a little better then it could have definitely been a kind of story to be a part of Oscar nominations. Anyways the message it has given almost everyone must have got it.
My ratings for the movie would be 4/5 and definitely a deserved hit.
