Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps is the sequel of Wall Street and it has come at the right time. The first part showed that Gordon Gekko’s (Michael Douglas) greed took him to the jail. In the second part he has come out of jail and written a book. The book is titled Is Greed Good?Greed is good. Greed is right. Greed works. How everyone in today’s world has become greedy. And is greed a reason for recession. The movie shows how recession changes the lives of people. How moral values and ethics has taken a back seat in business. And the biggest question of all is money the biggest asset one posses?
These are the things which left me ponder about after watching the movie. The speech of Gordon Gekko about greed is really wonderful. Something which will surely make the audience clap. Parallel greed and recession there is another story going on about Gordon Gekko, his daughter and her boyfriend. Winnie Gekko (Carey Mulligan) hates her father Gordon Gekko and holds him responsible for her brother’s death. But her boyfriend, Jake Moore (Shia LaBeouf), feels that Winnie is actually missing her father and he wants her to get united with her father.
In the meantime Jake’s mentor, Louis Zabel (Frank Langella), commits suicide. Jake feels Bretton James (Josh Brolin), the head of Churchill Schwartz firm, responsible for Zabel’s death. Bretton said that he will buy the shares of Zabel’s Banking Institution at two dollars or else Zabel will go bankrupt. Zabel could not take the fact that the share prices have gone down from $79 per share to $2 per share and he finally committed suicide. James thinks of taking revenge and he thinks of taking help from Gordon. Winnie warns him and tells him to stay away from Gordon but James feels Gordon is a good man. After all Gordon has realized greed is not good but is it really true the way he has shown it to the world? Or is there some greed still left in him? To what extent can one go in greed?
The movie has been directed by Oliver Stone and written by Allan Loeb, Stephen Schiff. The best thing of the movie is editing David Brenner, Julie Monroe. Also the music is good and is given by Craig Armstrong.
At last I would say it would be a treat for girls to watch Shia LaBeouf especially while he is riding a bike or in a biker suit. :-) My overall rating for the movie 4/5.
P.S. Inception is still the best movie of the year I have watched so far.
